What does a furniture design technician do?

The Furniture Design Technician plays a crucial role in the design and development of furniture and interior layout projects. Working closely with designers and engineers, they are responsible for creating detailed technical drawings needed for furniture manufacturing, ensuring that these meet the required standards of quality, functionality, and aesthetics.

Using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, they create 3D models of products to provide a clear and precise visualisation of future furniture before production. This role requires strong technical skills in design, a good understanding of materials used in the furniture industry, and mastery of current standards.

DUTIES OF A Furniture Design Office Technician

The responsibilities of the Furniture Design Technician are varied and cover all stages from design to production. Their key tasks include:

Creation of technical drawings: Based on sketches or ideas provided by designers, they produce the detailed plans required for manufacturing. These drawings must include all dimensions, the materials to be used, as well as technical details for assembly.

3D modelling: Using CAD/CAM software, they create 3D models of furniture. This not only allows for project visualisation but also helps simulate assemblies and identify potential errors before production begins.

Project monitoring: The technician may also oversee the project throughout its development, liaising with the production workshop to ensure that the furniture is manufactured according to the established plans.

Technological monitoring: They stay informed of the latest technological advancements in furniture design, new CAD/CAM software, as well as trends in materials and design.
