Current environmental objectives largely rely on the decisive contribution of forests and wood. This sector represents an exemplary model of sustainable development and a typical model of the circular economy, promoting the ecological transition. From upstream forestry to downstream industry, this sector, with nearly 450,000 jobs in France, creates ecological, economic, and societal value at each of its links.

Wood has become a strategic material due to its renewable, recyclable nature and its contribution to combating climate change. With low energy consumption in its implementation and strong insulating properties, it stands out as one of the basic materials in the design and construction of high-energy-performance buildings with zero environmental impact. Contemporary architecture and design, and the arrangement of living spaces, are discovering new virtues of this material every day, with its astonishingly modern characteristics.

In the renewable energy sector, wood holds an essential place, far ahead of all others. While reducing France’s oil bill, wood makes a crucial contribution to the ecological transition. Limiting dependence on oil and reducing the negative impacts associated with developing sustainable alternatives open up new perspectives for the chemical industry: the chemistry of bio-sourced materials, through the more massive incorporation of forest biomass. Across this sector, depending on their paths, students and engineering students trained at ENSTIB are capable of bringing their versatility and specific skills.

ENSTIB, École Nationale Supérieure des Technologies et Industries du Bois, is the only French public Grande École that trains engineers capable of taking on and leading projects with various disciplinary profiles, in all socio-economic and industrial sectors of the wood industry (energy, environment, construction, layout, production, and logistics).
